Overview
In 2012 ACEM will be undertaking a major IT restructure involving a number of the College's systems and processes.
Two of the projects that will have a significant impact on how everyone in the College works are the new website and the migration to the Sharepoint 2010 platform.
These projects are designed to support the College in achieving the objectives outlined in the ACEM Strategic Plan 2012-2015, which relate to the five themes of Education, Advocacy, Member support, Standards and Awareness.
Website
Leading digital agency Reactive has produced a web strategy for ACEM which is available in presentation format here. This strategy outlines how best the College can utilize the digital space in achieving its goals and establish a clear pathway for the building of the new website.
The strategy draws on the ACEM Strategic Plan, Reactive’s own research and the findings of workshops conducted with the Web Working Group, which includes representatives from the trainee and Fellow membership bodies and College staff.
After delivery and approval of the strategy, Reactive began developing a sitemap and wireframes for the new site in early 2012. A set of first-draft wireframes and accompanying sitemap was produced in May. These were extensively reviewed and modified over the following months. In August the web project reached the stage of usability testing, in which participants are invited to carry out a series of tasks on a 'bare-bones' prototype of the website.
Following usability testing, design of the website began in September. A distinct look and feel was created that reflected the unique character of the College and its members. This design was applied to the templates and the resulting final templates are currently being 'cut' into HTML so they will be fully functional as the front end of our new website. Design is an ongoing process and the images included in the link above should not be looked on as final.
We are actively seeking feedback in regards to the designed templates and all other aspects of the new website and want very much to hear from members with comments, opinions or ideas. Please contact the Communications Manager on (03) 9320 0470.
Sharepoint
Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 is a business collaboration platform that lets users share, search, analyse and manage information over the internet. It provides an online environment in which people can collaborate on projects and communicate easily and quickly with each other.
Following a successful proposal from the College’s long-term digital supplier Flash FX, Sharepoint has been selected as the software platform best suited to meeting ACEM’s current and future requirements.
Over the coming months, all the College data will be migrated into Sharepoint (stored on Microsoft servers) offering us a number of time and cost-saving benefits.
At the same time, College staff will be trained in Sharepoint and their work activities migrated into the new platform.
Fellows and trainees will be brought into the new environment gradually, with advance notice of all changes and a variety of communications tools being employed to ensure a smooth transition.
The new website and platform will be previewed at the ASM in Hobart in November 2012, with full launch expected in early 2013.
A presentation overview covering both projects is available here.
An inclusive and collaborative approach is being pursued in relation to both these projects. A list of Frequently Asked Questions is available and will be added to as the project progresses. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on the number below.
